My concentration is a study of inanimate objects through still life photography. I am doing a still life concentration with a variation of studio and natural light. By personally setting up objects in a specific way, I hoped to bring life to the subjects of my photos and make the viewer see the objects differently way. Each week I tried new things to show that I could master my concentration. Each photo that I selected went through a short editing process that produced the best photo.

The first photo is a vitamin water bottle that I set up on the sidewalk, and I waited for just the right moment with the sun to my back to get the right shadow affect in the photo. The second photo I set up a mug with coffee in it and placed the newspaper as the background. The third photo I placed a controller on a table and took the picture with the television going in the background with the right color screen. The fourth photo is a diptych of two hockey skate pictures that I took in a studio with the lights pointing on both sides of the skate. The fifth photo is of a wreath of flowers in a shop with lighting coming from the top. The sixth photo is three football memorabilia with a jersey as the bottom and lighting from both sides. The seventh photo is of monopoly pieces set up by me and the lighting is from the top. The eighth photo is of poker chips that I placed on top of each other in a studio set up. The ninth photo is of dollar bills with the word “money” spelled out in scrabble letters with lighting from the top. The tenth photo is of baseball bobble heads lined up with lighting from both sides. The eleventh photo is of a wine glass and bottle with candles and rocks, with lighting from the right side. The twelfth photo is of clocks in a store with lighting from all sides.

This final week i want to focus on flowers. I will work on multiple subjects of flowers so i want to go to a flower shop and try that one out again. I will also get one or two flowers on a grass background and hopefully get a few pictures like that. I will take around 2-3 pictures this week and I can get them done early in the week.

For this week I took pictures of flowers. I took this picture in the garden in my backyard. We have some nice color roses in the backyard and I wanted to get some shot of them. I liked the bright color of the rose with the obvious grass in the background. I think that the focus on the roses makes the background pop out more too and I think that it adds to the picture. I adjusted the reds in the picture to make the rose stand out a little better and curves as well for the background.

This week I took pictures of flowers. I took this picture outside of my house in someones garden (oops). The bright color of the flowers got my attention when I was walking by and I needed to get it in a shot. I angled the camera up so I could provide some background to the picture and still get the nice flowers in the picture. I edited the pictures with a little levels adjustment and some curves to brighten up the picture.

This week I took pictures of flowers. This picture in particular was taken in a flower shop. I wanted to get multiple flowers in the picture so I took a side view of the collection. Although the picture is not very interesting looking, it has a lot of depth and that is what I was going for with the shot. I did the basic editing with levels and curves.

This week I took pictures of flowers. This picture in particular was taken in a flower shop because I couldn’t find any beautiful flowers by my house. I took this picture in the middle of the shop. I saw this big pink flower and knew that I could fill the frame with it. I like this photo because it has a lot of depth to it and it makes the viewer look through the picture a lot more. The editing was very simple, just simple levels and curves.

This week I am going to take pictures of clocks. I want to go to an antique store with bundles or clocks and take pictures of them with the hopes of getting a bunch of different subjects in the picture and a lot of depth. I want to take the pictures early in the week just in case the pictures don’t work out, I can always go to a different store. There is one clock store close to me so I will take them Monday. I will get 2-3 pictures for this week.

For this week I took pictures at a local clock store. I tried to broaden the spectrum of my concentration by adding more objects and adding depth to the frame. This is probably my best picture of depth of the whole week. It was difficult for me because I couldn’t really set anything up myself but I had to deal with it anyway. .These are clocks that were on a stand in the store. I liked that there were multiple clocks in the frame. I edited the photo by adjusting the background to be more white instead of the grey that was originally there.

For this week I took pictures at a local clock store. I tried to broaden the spectrum of my concentration by adding more objects and adding depth to the frame. I took this picture of a row of small watches. I liked the change in color as you go through the frame. It also adds some depth to the picture. I edited the picture by adjusting the levels and curves to brighten up the colors of the watches.

For this week I took pictures at a local lamp store. I tried to broaden the spectrum of my concentration by adding more objects and adding depth to the frame. This picture is of many lamps in a row and I thought that the repetition is pretty nice. I edited the photo by adjusting the color balance of the yellow to get that out of the picture.

For this week I took pictures at a local clock store. I tried to broaden the spectrum of my concentration by adding more objects and adding depth to the frame. I’m not really sure if this picture goes with the theme of the week but I liked this photo anyway so I put it in. These are two clocks and I decided to tilt the camera to add a different view to the picture. I desaturated the picture in photoshop.

Week 11: Still Life

This week I will focus on wine glasses. I want to take the pictures in a natural light and studio light format. I hope to deviate from the usual wine setup that is usually shown in wine glasses. I want to take 2-3 pictures but I will take them in two different setups because I want to get different sides to the glasses and  diffferent feels to them.

This week I decided to take pictures of wine glasses. I saw a some cool examples on flickr and wanted to try to duplicate them. I ran into some trouble this week because I couldn’t find any fruit around the house, so I decided to change the theme of my photos to more romantic rather playful. I used candles and marbles to add depth to the picture. Also in this picture I put some purple Gatorade to simulate wine and make the picture look elegant. I adjusted the curves, levels, and contrast in the picture to make the photo a little darker and making more value in the photo.

This week I decided to take pictures of wine glasses. I saw some examples on flickr and wanted to try and duplicate them. I ran into some problems this week because I couldn’t find any fruits in my house so I decided to go with candles and marbles. In this picture, I turned to the left a little bit to get a different point of view and I took the picture. I placed all of the marbles in the glasses to switch things up and I think it made the picture look better. I adjusted the curves, levels and contrast to bring out the different between whites and darks.

I ran into some problems this week because I couldn’t find any fruit to add depth to the picture, so I decided to go into a more romantic style picture this week by adding the candles and marbles. For this picture, I wanted to only light one candle and point my light at an angle to show a change in color from white to black in the photo. I think that the shadow has a cool affect on the picture and it makes it stand out. I adjusted the levels, curves and contrast to bring out a better separation of blacks and whites.

I ran into some problems this week with supplies because I couldn’t find any fruits to add to the picture so I decided to go romantic with the candles and marbles. This picture is different because i do not have the candles lit in this one and I decided to tilt the light that I have to a certain position to get the cool shadow affect shown. I liked this photo because it had a lot of depth and the shadow looked unique to me. I adjusted the levels, curves and contrast to bring out the black and white separation in the shadows behind the wine glasses.

I added some lit candles and marbles in this picture and i think it adds a lot of depth to the picture, which I like. This week I decided to take pictures of wine glasses. I took a picture likes this last semester but I didn’t like how you could vividly see my light in the glass so I decided to try it again. I really liked this one because the background has a cool contrast to it and the glasses glow in a really nice light. I think the way that I pointed the light this time is better because you can only see part of it now in the top right corners of all the glasses. I edited this photo by adjusting the curves, levels and contrast to separate the whites from darks.

Week 10: Still Life

This week I will focus on money. I got this idea looking on tv and after researching it on flickr, I think that I can duplicate some good examples of it. I want to take multiple pictures of money ranging from point of views, to showing repetition of the money. I will take these pictures on Monday because I am leaving early this week. I want to take about 2-3 pictures and I can take them at my house.

This week I took pictures of money. I wanted to take a still life of some money as well as the word money in a set up format and this is the picture that I got. I placed some dollar bills scattered on a kitchen table and placed the scrabble words across the money and frame. I edited the photo by adjusting the levels and curves to make the white in the bills brighter and I also added a slight vinegrette to the edges of the photo.

For this week I took pictures of money. I layed 7 dollar bills on a kitchen table with a light right above it and took a picture of it. I wanted to show repetition as well as a still life. I also wanted to add depth to the photo so I took the picture at an angle and I think it works for the photo. I edited the picture by adjusting the curves and levels, as well as adding a slight vignette to the picture.

Week 9: Still Life

This week I will take pictures of a monopoly board/game. I found a lot of good examples on flickr and I am excited about the prospects of this week. I want to take pictures of the board and multiple different pieces so I’m not just focusing on one subject alone. I will make different perspectives and use lighting to make the subject pop out. I will take about 3 photos if everything works out this week. I can take them all from my house.

Week 8: Still Life

This week i want to focus on shoes. I want to focus on the color and shapes of the shoes particularly. I know that taking pictures of just shoes would be boring so I want to get good background and lighting this week. I want to take 2 outdoor pictures on grass and another close up picture of the laces. I will take about 2-3 pictures this week. I will do them earlier in the week because I am leaving school early on Wednesday.
